Instagram boutique DM sales automation: size and stock
Instagram boutique DM sales automation: the AI answers size and stock questions 24/7 and, with Payment tracking on, opens orders; it never invents stock.

An Instagram boutique’s DM inbox never goes quiet: "Is this dress available in size M?", "How much is it?", "How many days does shipping take?", "Do you have that in another color?", "Can I return it?". When a post takes off, hundreds of DMs and comments pour in at once. A one-person operation or a small team can’t keep up, and when replies come late the customer buys from another boutique. In the evening, after the boutique closes, questions sit unanswered.
Instagram boutique DM sales automation takes over this traffic: inTusell answers product, size, price and stock questions and moves interest toward an order, without inventing stock or prices. This article explains how an Instagram boutique automates its DM sales with inTusell. It is part of the Instagram boutiques chapter of our sector-based "how to train your AI" series.
Quick answer
inTusell is an AI sales assistant and CRM that answers messages on WhatsApp, Instagram and web chat, opens orders and follows each customer through the sales pipeline. For a boutique it answers product, size, stock and price questions from DMs and WhatsApp 24/7 using your knowledge base, confirms product and amount and, with Payment tracking on, opens the order. It never invents stock or prices.
Who is it for?
This article is for businesses that sell mainly through Instagram and WhatsApp DM: clothing and fashion boutiques, jewelry and accessory sellers, cosmetics and personal-care brands, home textiles and small gift brands. It makes the biggest difference for boutiques that cannot keep up with the DM load, leave evening messages until morning, and lose customers on "is it in stock?" questions.
How does DM sales work?
When a customer sees a post and writes "what sizes does this come in?", the assistant fills in the gaps: which product, size, color, quantity. Because your product list, size chart and stock information are in the knowledge base, the AI speaks only on that basis: it does not present a size that does not exist as "available." If your store is connected it says whether an item is in stock, never how many are left.
| Step | What happens | Who is in control |
|---|---|---|
| Question | Customer asks about a product or size | AI answers from the knowledge base |
| Stock | In stock or not (no count given) | You update the stock, or it comes from your connected store |
| Clarification | Size, color, quantity, amount | AI |
| Order | After confirmation the order opens (with Payment tracking on), or the customer goes to your connected store’s checkout | You choose the payment route |
| Uncertainty | Hands off to the team if unsure | AI stops, hands off |
The critical point is this: the AI does not invent stock or prices. If information is out of date, or missing from the knowledge base, it does not guess; it hands the conversation to the team. That prevents the cancellations and disappointment that wrong stock information causes: in DM sales, this is what builds trust most.
There are two payment routes. If your store (Shopify, ikas, Trendyol and others; integrations are in beta) is connected, the purchase and payment happen on your store’s own checkout, and the AI makes no separate payment link. Without a connected store, and with Payment tracking on, the AI opens the order itself and sends the customer an order tracking link. If you sell by bank transfer, orders land in the receivables ledger (Tahsilat defteri): the AI sends the amount, IBAN and reference code in one message and your team approves the receipt; the AI never says "your payment was received" before that approval. Details are in the bank transfer and receipt tracking article.
From comment to DM, from DM to sale
On Instagram, much of the interest comes from the comments under a post ("price?", "stock?"). Comment replies have their own "Instagram comments" switch on the Instagram card, and it is on by default. The AI writes one short, public reply to each comment; it does not reply to spam comments carrying links, which you hide or delete from the panel. If you connected Instagram before September 24, 2026, no comment gets an AI reply until you reconnect once. Replying to a comment by private message (Reply with DM) opens after Meta approval.
The way to close the sale is a short comment reply that invites the customer to DM: when the customer sends a DM, the conversation continues there and the AI confirms the product, size and amount. For channel setup details, see the Instagram and WhatsApp automation article.
Winning back the quiet customer
A customer who says "let me think about it" and disappears is the most frequently lost sale at boutiques. inTusell sends that customer up to 3 follow-up messages; the AI writes each one from the conversation, with no canned templates. Follow-ups go out on WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram, only within business hours. They stop when the customer replies, pays for an order or says "don’t message me."
What it isn’t
- Not a simple chatbot. It is an AI sales assistant and CRM that understands intent, opens orders and follows each customer through the sales pipeline.
- Not a stock or ERP system. You or your connected store keep the stock; the AI only says in stock or not.
- Not a payment infrastructure. It does not collect payment itself; payment happens on your store’s checkout or by bank transfer, and your team approves the receipt.
- Not a system that makes things up. It does not mention a product you have not uploaded, stock that does not exist or a price it does not know; it hands off to the team.
Frequently asked questions
How does the AI answer product, size and stock questions?
Once you load your product list, size chart and stock information into the knowledge base, the AI answers "is this dress available in size S?" with the right product and size. If your store is connected it says whether an item is in stock, never how many are left. It does not invent stock it does not know or is unsure about; it hands the conversation to your team.
Does it take the order from the DM on its own?
The AI confirms the product, size, quantity and amount with the customer. Without a connected store, and with Payment tracking on, it opens the order itself after confirmation and sends the customer an order tracking link; if you sell by bank transfer it sends the amount, IBAN and reference code in one message, and your team approves the receipt. With a connected store it sends the customer to your store’s own checkout, where the purchase and payment happen. For unclear or special requests it hands off to the team.
Does it also reply to Instagram comments?
Yes. The AI writes one short, public reply to each comment. Comment replies have their own "Instagram comments" switch on the Instagram card, and it is on by default. If you connected Instagram before September 24, 2026, reconnect once for comments. Replying to a comment by private message (Reply with DM) opens after Meta approval; until then the AI invites the customer to send a DM.
Could it quote the wrong price?
The AI only uses the prices you load into your knowledge base; you define the discount and campaign rules. It does not invent a price it does not know and hands off to the team. Keeping prices and stock current is in your hands; once you upload the current file, later replies use the new information.
Will I miss messages that come in overnight?
The AI replies 24/7, evenings and nights included, so DMs do not wait until morning. We do not promise seconds on Instagram: for most business accounts Instagram messages are fetched at intervals, which can take a few minutes.
Does it communicate with international customers?
Yes. The AI replies in whatever language the customer writes in. A boutique selling abroad needs no separate setting.
