Instagram DM and WhatsApp automation for law firms

Law firm Instagram DM and WhatsApp automation: consultation requests in one inbox; the AI replies 24/7 and books consultations but gives no legal opinion.

A lawyer listens closely to a client in the meeting room while a face-down phone glows softly indigo on the table.

A law office’s Instagram inbox: under one post, comments have dropped in: "how much is a consultation?", "do you handle severance pay cases?", "what’s needed for a divorce?". At the same time five people are messaging WhatsApp: one about an eviction case, one with a traffic-accident report, and one writing in English from abroad. The secretary cannot reply to all of them within two minutes; a prospective client who writes after hours waits until the next day. Every consultation request answered late goes to another firm. This article explains how to set up Instagram DM automation for a law firm along with WhatsApp and comment replies on inTusell: with steps that require no technical knowledge and respect confidentiality and professional rules.

This article is the channel pillar of the law section of our sector-based "how to train your AI" series. You will find the AI-training side in the series' main article, law firm AI training, and daily operations in how to use inTusell.

Quick answer

Summary

inTusell is an AI sales assistant and CRM that answers WhatsApp, Instagram and web chat messages and books appointments. For a law firm, Instagram DMs, comments and WhatsApp share one inbox; the AI replies 24/7 in the client’s language and books consultations. It gives no legal opinion and hands legal questions to the lawyer.

The firm’s channel reality

Consultation requests do not come from a single channel. One post draws interest and comments accumulate; someone else who saw the same content writes via WhatsApp; a third reaches you from the chat bubble on your website. On a normal day this scatter is manageable, but not when you run an ad, or when a topic in the news (a new regulation, a debate over rent increases) drives up the number of inquiries.

inTusell collects all of these channels in a single inbox and connects all of them to the same AI assistant. The emphasis here matters: this is not a chatbot, but an assistant trained to act like an experienced office secretary and consultation coordinator. It understands the prospective client’s request, asks which area the matter falls under and proposes a suitable consultation appointment, but it leaves the legal question to the lawyer, gives no opinion and promises no case outcome.

Who is it for?

This article is for firms that can’t keep up with the speed and volume of incoming consultation requests through a single channel. Typical profiles:

  • Firms that receive dozens of preliminary inquiries and consultation requests a day from Instagram and WhatsApp.
  • Offices working in consultation-heavy areas such as family, labor and consumer law.
  • Firms receiving heavy inquiries in traffic accidents, compensation and insurance disputes.
  • Offices working with foreign clients (citizenship, residence, immigration law) that lose requests because they cannot respond in multiple languages.
  • From a one-person secretariat to a team of several lawyers; channel count is never charged, and the benefit grows with the channels.

Connecting WhatsApp: QR or linking code today, the official line after Meta approval

WhatsApp is the busiest channel for a firm. Today you link it with a QR code or with a linking code for your phone number, and for most firms that method is enough.

MethodSetupMeta Business approvalSuitable for
QR code or linking codeScan a QR code with your phone or type an 8-character codeNot requiredMost firms that want to keep their existing number
Official line (Cloud API)Opens after Meta approvalRequiredHigh-volume organizations that want the official line

The QR method works like connecting WhatsApp Web: in the panel you go to My business › Channels › Messaging Channels and click "Connect with QR", then on your phone open WhatsApp › Settings › Linked Devices › Link a Device and scan the square. If the panel is open on the same phone, choose "Link with phone number" in the same window: enter your number, press "Get code", and an 8-character linking code appears; on the phone’s Link a Device screen tap the option to link with a phone number and type the code. The number stays the same and your phone keeps working. Nothing changes on the client’s side; they keep messaging the same number.

A few things to know. If the phone stays offline for a long time, the link can drop; the panel warns you and the link in the warning reopens the QR window. The AI works only in one-to-one chats, never in WhatsApp groups. Each plan includes 1 WhatsApp line; a separate number per lawyer is a paid add-on. The official WhatsApp line (Cloud API) opens after Meta approval; today you connect with a QR code or a linking code.

Instagram DM automation

Instagram connects through Meta login: in the panel you click "Connect All" or the Instagram tile, then pick your Facebook Page and Instagram account on the Meta screen, with no keys or tokens to copy. The account must be Professional and linked to a Facebook Page.

After it is connected, DM replies are already on: the AI responds to incoming direct messages, and there is no extra switch to turn on. If you want the AI to stop answering DMs, turn off "Instagram DM" under "Per-Channel AI Control" in Advanced AI Settings; your team then answers DMs. We don’t promise a reply time in seconds on Instagram: for most business accounts Instagram messages are fetched at intervals, which can take a few minutes.

In DM, the flow is set up to comply with legal rules: the AI asks which area the matter falls under and its urgency, and directs to a consultation appointment, but does not interpret the matter. On a question like "Am I right, will I win?" it stops and leaves it to the lawyer.

Instagram comments: their own switch and an invitation to DM

In law, post comments are a hidden consultation channel, but at the same time they are the most sensitive area in terms of confidentiality. Under a post, comments like "price?", "would you take this case?", "could it happen to me too?" drop in, and most go unanswered.

In inTusell, comment replies are switched on or off with the "Instagram comments" switch on the Instagram card; the switch is on by default. Having their own switch matters especially in law: case details and fees should not be discussed in public under a comment. The AI writes one short public reply to each comment; it does not reply to spam comments that carry links, which you hide or delete from the panel. Replying by private message (Reply with DM) opens after Meta approval. If you connected Instagram before September 24, 2026, the panel shows a "Reconnect Instagram to manage comments" warning; until you reconnect once, no comment gets an AI reply.

The typical flow is set up like this:

  1. A prospective client writes "consultation fee?" under a post.
  2. The AI leaves a short, neutral public reply on the comment ("It varies by matter, send us a DM for the details").
  3. When the prospective client sends a DM, the conversation continues there and the AI replies: it clarifies the topic and practice area and proposes a suitable consultation appointment.

This way no fee or file detail is discussed in public; the sensitive conversation continues in the DM. This is the correct flow for the KVKK, for attorney-client confidentiality, and for professional rules. Writing a concrete legal opinion under the comment is also risky under the advertising ban, and a neutral reply with an invitation to DM reduces that risk.

Single inbox (web chat, Telegram)

Instagram and WhatsApp are the busiest, but not the only channels. inTusell collects all of the following channels in the same inbox:

ChannelConnection methodTypical firm use
Instagram DMMeta loginPost-publication consultation requests
Instagram commentsMeta login + separate switch (on by default)"Consultation fee?" comments under posts
WhatsAppQR or linking code; official line after Meta approvalThe busiest inquiry channel
TelegramBot connectionProspective clients writing one-to-one through the bot
Web chatWidget on the siteSite visitors’ consultation questions

Facebook Messenger is on the way.

For the team, this means no jumping between different apps. All conversations appear on a single screen, with the same client history. A prospective client who starts on WhatsApp and continues on Instagram stays in one context, not two separate conversations. And when a handoff to the lawyer is needed, that single context goes across with its full history, so the client does not have to repeat themselves.

You can see in detail how the channels work and what they integrate with on the solutions and integrations pages.

24/7 and multilingual responses

A significant portion of consultation requests come outside working hours: someone who sees a post in the evening writes at night, an urgent matter (a report, a notice, a detention in the news) comes on the weekend, a client abroad messages with the time difference. The team sleeps, the AI doesn’t. A request that comes in at night is not left waiting until morning: the AI can clarify the area of the matter and even create a consultation appointment from an open slot. If a matter carries a deadline risk (a served notice, an objection period, an enforcement proceeding), the AI does no deadline calculation; it says the matter may be urgent and hands the conversation to the team for the earliest meeting.

Multilingual responses are decisive for firms working with foreign clients. In citizenship, residence, immigration and international trade law, inquiries in a foreign language are common. Whatever language the client writes in, the AI replies in that language (English to someone writing in English, Arabic to someone writing in Arabic) and it keeps the legal tone. You do not need a separate channel, a separate account, or a translator for this. A single "ok" or "hi" doesn’t switch the language; fixed system messages such as reminders go in Turkish to Turkish speakers and in English to everyone else.

Whatever channel it comes from, in law one rule stands above all: the AI does not give legal advice. On a concrete question coming from WhatsApp, Instagram DM or a comment ("will I win this case?", "how much compensation will I get?", "is the deadline missed?"), the AI does not reason about it. It asks about the area of the matter, tells the client which documents to bring, and directs to a consultation appointment.

This boundary is not left to the rules you write alone. The instructions that come ready for law firms tell the AI from the start "give no legal opinion, no chance of winning or compensation estimate, promise no outcome"; that is the main control. On top of this, an output filter (a pattern scan plus a second-model check) scans for misleading legal promises such as "you’ll definitely win" or "guaranteed compensation" and flags them. The filter is not a wall that blocks everything; it is a second safety net that backs up the instructions and catches risky statements. Legal and sensitive topics reach your team in every mode.

After-hours requests and reminders

One of the concrete gains of channel automation at a firm is reducing consultations that clients don’t show up for (no-shows). The AI does not just book appointments; reminders go out automatically 1 day and 2 hours before the consultation. If you wrote a preparation note on the consultation type (for example the documents to bring), it appears in the 1-day reminder, so the meeting is not wasted. If the client lets you know in advance through the link in the message that they cannot come, the slot does not go to waste. Reminders run on paid plans. You can find the details of this engine in law consultation appointment automation.

If a meeting is left empty anyway and you mark attendance in the panel, the client who did not show gets a rescheduling message with 3 options from your real open times and an appointment management link; if you do not mark attendance, this message is not sent, because "missed" would only be a guess.

Channel setup strategy

The best approach is to turn on automation before you enter a busy period. In practice, we do it like this:

  1. First prepare the knowledge base and consultation system. Have practice areas, the consultation process, required documents, working hours and consultation types defined in the panel. We explained the details in law firm AI training.
  2. Start with DM and WhatsApp. WhatsApp links with a QR code or linking code, Instagram with Meta login; DM replies are already on once Instagram is connected. Most firms handle consultation traffic from here.
  3. Check the comment switch. Comment replies are switched on or off with the "Instagram comments" switch on the Instagram card; this switch is on by default. If you connected Instagram before September 24, 2026, reconnect it once; then watch the AI’s tone on low-risk, neutral comment replies. On concrete legal questions, check that the reply stays a short invitation to DM.
  4. Choose the operating mode. New accounts start in Intern mode: the AI sends replies itself and asks you before a cancellation or refund. If you want to see every reply in the first days, switch to Full approval; you can put a single conversation that turns into a sensitive file in Approval or Paused mode. The team looks only at legal assessment and sensitive or urgent conversations.
  5. Review and turn fixes into rules. In the first weeks, take a short look at replies in AI Test and in Conversations. If you see a wrong or missing answer, add the fact to the knowledge base or write a rule in AI Rules. Approvals and corrections in the Label Manager are kept as a quality record; they do not change the AI’s replies on their own.

With this flow, the system settles in before the rush. Instead of sifting through messages, your team focuses only on the conversations that truly need a lawyer: that is, legal judgment.

What it isn’t

To avoid putting it in the wrong category, let us clarify:

  • It is not a bulk-messaging / spam tool. inTusell is an assistant that responds to incoming requests; it does not send unsolicited bulk DMs.
  • It is not a simple keyword-driven chatbot. It is not a "when this is typed, say that" scenario tree; it is an AI sales assistant and CRM that answers messages on WhatsApp, Instagram and web chat, books appointments and follows each prospective client through the pipeline.
  • It is not a system that changes your number. Your WhatsApp number stays the same; the client notices no difference.
  • It is not a system that gives legal advice. Whatever channel it comes from, it gives no opinion and promises no case outcome; it leaves the legal question to the lawyer. It is constrained so it does not produce misleading outcome promises.
  • It is not a tool that replaces the firm. The lawyer always provides the service and establishes the attorney relationship; inTusell is the response and consultation-appointment layer, and is not a party to payment.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to change my WhatsApp number?

No. You link your existing firm WhatsApp number with a QR code or with an 8-character linking code sent for your phone number; the number stays the same, your phone keeps working, and the client notices no difference.

Is Meta Business approval required?

Not for WhatsApp: linking with a QR code or a linking code needs no Meta Business approval. The official WhatsApp line (Cloud API) opens after Meta approval. Instagram connects through Meta login: you pick your Facebook Page and Instagram account, with no keys or tokens to copy.

Does the AI also reply to post comments?

Yes. The AI writes one short, public reply to each comment and does not reply to spam comments that carry links. Comment replies are switched on or off with the "Instagram comments" switch on the Instagram card, and it is on by default. If you connected Instagram before September 24, 2026, you need to reconnect once. In law, to avoid discussing case details and fees in public, the AI gives the comment a neutral reply and invites the person to send a DM.

What happens with a client who writes in a foreign language?

Whatever language the client writes in, the AI replies in that language. For firms with foreign-client traffic or those handling citizenship and residence matters, messages arriving in English, Arabic or German are answered without setting up a separate channel, while preserving the legal tone.

Does the AI give legal advice to everyone who messages?

No. The AI gives no legal opinion and predicts no case outcome; it provides consultation appointment, procedure and documents-to-bring information and refers the matter. Legal and sensitive topics reach your team in every mode. The ready legal instructions forbid outcome promises, and an output filter also scans for misleading legal promises and flags them.

When does the AI hand off to a human?

When the AI is unsure, or when a legal assessment, a conflict of interest or an emergency (an upcoming hearing, a detention) is involved, it hands the conversation to the lawyer with its full history; the handoff lands on the Decisions page. You choose the account mode: Intern (default) sends replies itself and asks you before a cancellation or refund; Senior handles those itself too; in Full approval every reply on WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram waits for your approval.

Next step

Connecting channels is half the job; the real difference is in training the AI correctly. To set up practice-area knowledge, the consultation system, the tone and the legal boundaries, start with the series' main article, law firm AI training, then see daily operations in how to use inTusell. To go deeper into the consultation appointment and preliminary-assessment routing, you can look at law consultation appointment automation, and review the solution tailored to your firm on the law office page.

If you wonder how the same "does not give advice" boundary is set up in another regulated area, clinic AI training offers a good comparison; in tourism the flow is in travel agency AI training. For package and quota details you can look at the pricing page, and follow the whole series from the all articles list.
