A sales consultant shows a young customer a car’s interior while a face-down phone glows indigo on the next car.

A car dealership’s Instagram inbox: the Reel of a freshly arrived car has caught on, and dozens of comments have piled up under the post: "price?", "how many km?", "any trade-in?", "any paintwork?". At the same time five people are writing on WhatsApp, one wants to book a test drive, another asks the service shop about an oil change. While the sales advisor is mid-negotiation, they can’t get back to all of them within two minutes; an inquiry answered late goes not to a sale but to a competing dealer. This article explains how you set up automotive Instagram DM automation on inTusell, together with WhatsApp and comment replies, using concrete steps that require no technical knowledge.

This article is the channel leg of the automotive section of our sector-by-sector "how to train your AI" series. You’ll find the AI-training side in the series’ main article, automotive AI training, and the day-to-day operations in the how to use inTusell article.

Quick answer

Summary

inTusell is an AI sales assistant and CRM that answers messages on WhatsApp, Instagram and web chat, books appointments and follows each customer through the sales pipeline. A dealership’s and service shop’s Instagram DMs, comments and WhatsApp messages land in one inbox. The AI answers 24/7 and takes test drive and service requests; if the AI booking tools are on it books the free slot, otherwise it passes the request to your team. It never invents a price or vehicle detail.

The channel reality of a dealership and a service shop

A vehicle inquiry doesn’t come from a single channel. The Reel of a new car catches on and comments explode; someone else who saw the same listing writes on WhatsApp; a third reaches you from the chat bubble on your website. On quiet days, this scattering is manageable; when a campaign or new stock arrives, it isn’t.

inTusell collects all of these channels in a single inbox and connects the same AI sales assistant to all of them. The emphasis here matters: this is not a chatbot, but an assistant trained to behave like an experienced car salesperson. It understands the customer’s budget and need, suggests the right vehicle, and takes the test drive or service request, but it does not make up a detail it doesn’t know; it connects them to an advisor.

Who is it for?

This article is for automotive businesses that can’t fit the speed and volume of incoming inquiries into a single channel. Typical profiles:

  • Used and new car dealerships that get dozens of vehicle inquiries a day from Instagram and WhatsApp but can’t get back to all of them in time.
  • Dealerships flooded with comments on listing and campaign posts, with "price?" and "any trade-in?" comments piling up.
  • Authorized and independent service shops that want to handle service appointments, periodic maintenance, and parts inquiries beyond the phone.
  • Businesses working with foreign customers or customers who write in other languages, losing inquiries because they can’t reply in several languages.
  • From a one-person dealership to a multi-branch showroom; channels are never charged, and the benefit grows with more channels.

Connecting WhatsApp: QR or linking code today, the official line after Meta approval

WhatsApp is the busiest channel in automotive: negotiation, photos, and inspection talk mostly run through it. Today you link it with a QR code or with a linking code for your phone number, and for most dealerships and service shops that is enough.

MethodSetupMeta Business approvalWho it suits
QR code or linking codeScan a QR code with your phone or type an 8-character codeNot requiredMost dealerships and service shops that want to keep their existing number
Official line (Cloud API)Opens after Meta approvalRequiredHigh-volume showrooms and chains that want the official line

The QR method works like connecting WhatsApp Web: in the panel you go to My business › Channels › Messaging Channels and click "Connect with QR", then on your phone open WhatsApp › Settings › Linked Devices › Link a Device and scan the square. If the panel is open on the same phone, choose "Link with phone number" in the same window: enter your number, press "Get code", and an 8-character linking code appears; on the phone’s Link a Device screen tap the option to link with a phone number and type the code. The number stays the same and your phone keeps working. Nothing changes on the customer’s side; they keep writing to the same number. Since the number on your listing sites stays the same too, you don’t disrupt incoming traffic.

A few things to know. If the phone stays offline for a long time, the link can drop; the panel warns you and the link in the warning reopens the QR window. The AI works only in one-to-one chats, never in WhatsApp groups. Each plan includes 1 WhatsApp line; a second line for sales and service is a paid add-on. The official WhatsApp line (Cloud API) opens after Meta approval; today you connect with a QR code or a linking code.

Instagram DM automation

Instagram connects through Meta login: in the panel you click "Connect All" or the Instagram tile, then pick your Facebook Page and Instagram account on the Meta screen, with no keys or tokens to copy. The account must be Professional and linked to a Facebook Page.

DM replies are on as soon as it’s connected; there’s nothing extra to turn on: the AI replies to incoming direct messages. If you don’t want the AI to answer DMs, turn off "Instagram DM" under "Per-Channel AI Control" in Advanced AI Settings; the messages still land in your single inbox and your team replies. In automotive, DMs are the main door for inquiries asking for vehicle photos and details; the "is that car still available?" message usually comes from here. We don’t promise a reply time in seconds on Instagram: for most business accounts Instagram messages are fetched at intervals, which can take a few minutes.

Instagram comments: a separate switch and an invitation from comment to DM

At dealerships, listing post comments are a hidden sales channel. "Price?", "How many km?", "Any trade-in?", "Any paintwork?" comments pile up under new stock posts, and most go unanswered.

In inTusell, comment replies are switched on or off with the "Instagram comments" switch on the Instagram card; the switch is on by default. The reason to manage comments separately is operational: negotiation and exact prices shouldn’t be discussed under a public comment; the sales conversation should run in private. The AI writes one short public reply to each comment; it does not reply to spam comments that carry links, which you hide or delete from the panel. Replying by private message (Reply with DM) opens after Meta approval. If you connected Instagram before September 24, 2026, the panel shows a "Reconnect Instagram to manage comments" warning; until you reconnect once, no comment gets an AI reply.

The typical flow is set up like this:

  1. The customer writes "price?" under a listing.
  2. The AI leaves a short, neutral, public reply to the comment ("Send us a DM for the car’s current status and details").
  3. When the customer writes via DM, the conversation continues there and the AI replies; it asks about budget and need, suggests a suitable vehicle, and asks for a day and time for a test drive.

This way no negotiation happens in a public space; the sales conversation continues privately.

A single inbox (web chat, Telegram)

Instagram and WhatsApp are the busiest, but not the only channels. inTusell collects all of these channels in the same inbox:

ChannelConnection methodTypical automotive use
Instagram DMMeta login (pick Page and account)Vehicle photos, details, and "is it still available?" inquiries
Instagram commentsMeta login + "Instagram comments" switch (on by default)"price?", "km?", "trade-in?" comments under listings
WhatsAppQR code or linking code; official line after Meta approvalThe busiest channel for sales, negotiation, and service appointments
TelegramBot connectionVehicle and service questions from customers who write to the bot
Web chatWidget on your site with one line of codeVehicle and service questions from site visitors

Messenger is on the way.

What this means for the team: sales advisors don’t hop between different apps. Every conversation shows up on one screen. If a customer asks about a car on WhatsApp and later comes back about service on Instagram, the panel shows the likely duplicate contact; once you merge the two records, their conversations and appointments sit on one contact card.

You can see in detail how the channels work and what they integrate with on the solutions and integrations pages.

24/7 and multilingual replies

A large share of vehicle inquiries arrive outside working hours: someone browsing listings in the evening writes at night, and WhatsApp fills up on weekends while the dealership is closed. While the sales advisor sleeps, the AI keeps answering; a "is this car available?" inquiry that comes in at night doesn’t wait for morning, and a test drive request is collected; if the AI booking tools are on, the AI books it into a free slot.

Multilingual replies are decisive for dealerships working with exports and foreign customers. The AI replies in whatever language the customer writes in: English to someone writing in English, Arabic to someone writing in Arabic, German to someone writing in German. You don’t need a separate channel, a separate account, or a translator. Fixed system messages such as reminders go in Turkish to Turkish speakers and in English to everyone else.

Service appointments and reminders

The most concrete payoff of channel automation on the service side is fewer no-shows. The AI collects the date, time, vehicle details and the issue. What happens next depends on your account: if the AI booking tools are on, it checks your working hours and booked times and books the free slot itself; if not, it passes the request to your team with those details, and you confirm the time or the customer picks a free slot on your online booking page. To see which applies, ask for a service appointment in AI Test. Once the appointment exists, reminders go out 1 day and 2 hours before it. The 1-day message asks "1 Yes · 2 Reschedule · 3 Cancel" and carries a change or cancel link. If the customer lets you know in advance that they can’t come, the slot isn’t wasted and opens up for another car. Reminders run on paid plans. You’ll find the details of this engine, which handles periodic maintenance, tire, and inspection appointments, in the service appointment and vehicle/quote inquiry automation article.

Channel setup strategy

It’s best to turn automation on before a busy period (a campaign, new stock, an end-of-season sale) begins. Our field practice goes like this:

  1. Prepare the knowledge base and appointment system first. Make sure vehicle stock information, sales terms, the loan and trade-in process, service types, and working hours are defined in the panel. We covered the details in the automotive AI training article.
  2. Start with DMs and WhatsApp. WhatsApp links with a QR code or linking code, Instagram with Meta login; DM replies are already on once Instagram is connected. Most dealerships handle their sales traffic here.
  3. Review the comment switch. The "Instagram comments" switch on the Instagram card is on by default. If you connected Instagram before September 24, 2026, reconnect it once; then watch the AI’s tone on low-risk, neutral comment replies.
  4. Choose the operating mode. New accounts start in Intern mode: the AI sends replies itself and asks you before a cancellation or refund. If you want to see every reply in the first days before a campaign, switch to Full approval; you can put a single conversation that turns into a negotiation in Approval or Paused mode.
  5. Review and turn fixes into rules. In the first weeks, take a short look at replies in AI Test and in Conversations. If you see a wrong or missing answer, add the fact to the knowledge base or write a rule in AI Rules; your vehicle jargon builds up the same way. Approvals and corrections in the Label Manager are kept as a quality record; they do not change the AI’s replies on their own.

With this flow, the system settles in before the rush arrives; instead of putting out fires, your team focuses only on the conversations that truly need a human (negotiation and closing).

What it isn’t

To avoid putting it in the wrong category, let’s be clear:

  • It isn’t a bulk-messaging / spam tool. inTusell is an assistant that replies to incoming inquiries; it doesn’t send unsolicited bulk DMs. A customer who goes quiet receives at most 3 follow-up messages, only within business hours, and they stop when the customer says "don’t write to me."
  • It isn’t a simple keyword-based chatbot. inTusell is an AI sales assistant and CRM that answers messages on WhatsApp, Instagram and web chat, books appointments and opens orders, and follows each customer through the sales pipeline.
  • It isn’t a system that changes your number. Your WhatsApp number stays the same; the customer notices no difference.
  • It isn’t a system that makes up prices or vehicle information. The AI does not invent a price, mileage, damage record, or stock status it doesn’t know; it says it doesn’t know and connects the customer to an advisor. In automotive, this is the most important trust rule.
  • It isn’t a tool that replaces the dealership or service shop. The business always provides the sale and the service; inTusell is the layer for replies, appointments, and follow-up.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to change my WhatsApp number?

No. You link your existing dealership or service shop WhatsApp number with a QR code or with an 8-character linking code sent for your phone number; the number stays the same, your phone keeps working, and the customer notices no difference. The number on your listing sites doesn’t change either.

Is Meta Business approval required?

Not for WhatsApp: linking with a QR code or a linking code needs no Meta Business approval. The official WhatsApp line (Cloud API) opens after Meta approval. Instagram connects through Meta login: you pick your Facebook Page and Instagram account, with no keys or tokens to copy.

Does the AI reply to vehicle listing comments too?

Yes. The AI writes one short, public reply to each comment and does not reply to spam comments that carry links. Comment replies are switched on or off with the "Instagram comments" switch on the Instagram card, and it is on by default. If you connected Instagram before September 24, 2026, you need to reconnect once. The typical flow is to give "price?" and "how many km?" comments a short, neutral reply and invite the customer to DM.

Does the AI make up prices or vehicle information?

No. The AI does not invent a price, mileage, damage record, or stock status it does not know; it says it doesn’t know and hands the customer to the team. This is the most important trust rule: it does not give wrong vehicle information.

Can I manage the dealership and the service shop at the same time?

Yes. You can collect both vehicle sales inquiries and service appointment requests in the same inbox; the AI understands the type of request and routes it to the right flow.

When does the AI hand off to a human?

When the AI is unsure or a person is needed (negotiation, loan or inspection details, a situation that needs exact information), it hands the conversation to your sales advisor; the handoff lands on the Decisions page with the full history. You choose the account mode: Intern (default) sends replies itself and asks you before a cancellation or refund; Senior handles those itself too; in Full approval every reply on WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram waits for your approval.

Next step

Connecting the channels is half the job; the real difference is in training the AI correctly. To set up vehicle stock information, sales terms, service types, and the tone, start with the series’ main article, automotive AI training, then see the day-to-day operations in the how to use inTusell article. To go deeper on the service appointment and no-show side, you can look at the service appointment automation article, review the packages and quotas on the pricing page, and follow the whole series via the blog.
